Byron Allen, the comedian turned entrepreneur, made headlines everywhere when he was announced as the new owner of The Weather Channel three months ago. Allen’s company, Entertainment Studios, reached a $300 million deal to acquire the infamous channel l from Blackstone Group, Bain Capital and Comcast-NBCUniversal.

This morning, while at the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit, Allen opened up in detail about his decision to add The Weather Channel to his growing empire.

He continued to drop gems during the fireside chat, including this one.

Entertainment One was founded 25 years ago and has since built it into the empire it is today, that not only operates eight cable TV channels (including Pets.TV, Comedy.TV, Recipe.TV, Cars.TV, ES.TV, MyDestination.TV and JusticeCentral.TV), but also has released independent films.

Allen joins the list of black entrepreneurs making major moves this year including JAY-Z and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who are currently working on an app together to highlight black businesses! Also on that list is FAMU graduate, Melissa Butler whose lipstick line, The Lip Bar,became the first black-owned vegan brand sold at Target.

:yeshrug:Thats the way to play. Folks talk about starting your own...thats admirable and all, but if you want that real wealth, you gotta be ready to buy folks up. Assuming you don't get black balled, buying into existing money-making enterprises comes with much greater rewards(financially) than
building anew. He could have did his own thing...but the Weather channel already has an installed base of millions. Do like everybody else does and buy mothafukkas out.

Money don't care about segregation. Get that global league bread.

And thats the way to move. Obviously if you on the bottom, start businesses and get that shyt popping. In his position? He can afford to buy whole businesses just to strip assets and strengthen his own...just like all the major money makers do.
The name of the game is Multinationals and conglomerates. This why I don't get mad when brothas sell off businesses. Often times, those businesses get bought up for their userbase. If flipping a business funds a better venture, its smart fukking money.
Problem is selling and not making the connections to buy bigger. His idea of aiming for trillions definitely realistic if every couple of years he is buying into something bigger. Obviously not a trillion is a fukk ton of money, but if all his ventures are pushing billions of dollars of
transactions a year, there is no reason we can't be in 20 years reading about how Byron Allen is a 50Billion dollar media mogul, buying up online magazines and shyt like every white billionaire seems to do.
