Summary:

Set in a Chinese martial arts fantasy world, story of the youngest son of an ancient but fallen clan named Xiao Yan, who was once a prodigy but lost his fighting talent mysteriously and became an embarassment of the clan. He was promised to marry the daughter of a powerful clan and sect until she decided to divorce him due to his not regaining his previous talent in the past 3 years. A marriage annulment is considered a shameful event so to regain his family's honor he challenges her to a duel 3 years later.

On his journey to regain his lost abilities he learns that he never lost them, they were being sucked from him by an ancient ring he had worn since his mother died that she gifted to him and in that ring was a ghost that had used this energy to revive. This ghost is the spirit of a once famous alchemist named Yao Chen. The old ghost secretly becomes his mentor and helps him regain and surpass his former prodigious talent.

This summary only really applies to the first couple chapters. The series is much more than that.

The main character is smart, charismatic but introverted and impulsive. He makes mistakes that end up affecting his family and friends and has to make up for the consequences. A lot of his problems were caused by his own impulsiveness and unwillingness to back down or take losses, which makes the series entertaining to read to see how he climbs out of his self dug holes.

His motivation throughout the series changes as he matures going from revenge to responsibility and love.

Besides being a martial artist he is also an alchemist trained by the greatest in the land. An Alchemist in this story is treated like a doctor, medicine man, healer and drug dealer. Because Xiao Yan is so far behind in the beginning, Yao Chen takes him under his wing and teaches him alchemy and feeds dude medicines and drugs to get him caught up with his training. Eventually as the story goes on, Xiao Yan becomes a famous alchemist in his own right and uses his medicines to both refine his body, his friends and family and create a profit.

The antagonists are known as Soul Hall which is an organization that goes around capturing alchemists due to alchemists having stronger spiritual perception than average martial artists. They drain the energy of their souls for some secret plot...Yao Chen died and is a ghost because of a run in with them but Xiao Yan later creates a new body for him, which pisses Soul Hall off and they go after him for that and other reasons.

This story also has a harem element in that he meets powerful women who are attracted to him for some reason or another which also causes issues for himself even though he is in love with his childhood friend, Xun-Er who has encouraged him every step of the way. Unfortunately for him, she is from a powerful clan who will not let anyone marry her that is below their standards, so Xiao Yan has to power up to prove he is worthy. Xiao Yan later fukks up and accidently knocks up the Snake Queen when they overdose on his drugs so he's hiding this secret from her aight I don't know how this shyt is gonna turn out cause I ain't that far so I'll stop for now.

But the story has great fights. Constant fighting. Training montages. A lil clan politics but not to the point that its boring and plenty of drug dealing and power ups along the way.

Are you sure you saw Snake Queen Medusa in the anime trailer I posted? I don't think any of those other female characters were her. The scenes from the anime trailer don't show the Tager desert arc. Only goes up to him entering the magical beast mountain range to train. The gold aura chick is probably Xun Er and the red dress chick is from the auction house.

Well the live action series talks about The main character seeking vengeance for his mother's death but I'm 2/3rds done and his mom is never mentioned other than the reader being told thats where he got the ring from. Both the Live Action TV series and Animated TV series seem to have taken creative liberties separate from the book so there's no telling what all has changed. I've only watched one episode from the cartoon, I'll update the thread later when I'm done.

lol I never thought this would get an adaptation.:mjlol:
Shyt actually doesn't look half bad, just not consumable for western palettes.

Doesn't Xiao Yan rape Medusa later on and knocks her up?

:ehh: I've heard worse. Literally, an MC(chu feng if any y'all are readers) that uses rape as a form of justice and has no problem murdering cities because some relative didn't show enough face.

I just watched the first episode. This is actually pretty good even though they've made a couple changes. The casting is spot on.
