11/12 season (under Silas): 27th in opposition points per game, 30th in defensive rating
12/13 season (under Dunlap): 29th in opposition points per game, 30th in defensive rating
13/14 season: 4th in opposition points per game, 6th in defensive rating
Took the worst defensive team over two consecutive seasons and turned them into a top 5 defense in the league (#1 in fewest FBP), only ONE notable addition in Jefferson (Tolliver + Zeller on the minor) - no signing of an elite defensive anchor or elite wing defender, second biggest win% increase from previous season (19 and counting), #1 in least amount of turnovers, revived Al's career, despite the lack of scorers: has a fluid inside-out thing going on - allowing Kemba to play off-the-ball in two different boxes (Jefferson in post and McRoberts at the top), turned a Duke player from smackwhothisisnikka into a serviceable jack-of-all-trades playmaker, models his coaching after the GOAT Thibodeau.
He deserves to be in the COY conversation just as much as Hornacek, Pop and Thibs do.
