Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Slam dunk for Adidas as sales top Nike's Jordan line

:deadrose:

Sorry, Michael Jordan. It looks like your days as the king of the sneaker world may be over.

Research firm NPD Group reported Monday that Adidas, which has Houston Rockets star James Harden (and his big bushy beard) as its top endorser, is now the second best seller of U.S. footwear. Adidas passed Nike's Jordan brand, which NPD tracks separately from the rest of Nike.

Nike (NKE) is still ahead of Adidas overall. But the fading popularity of Air Jordans, a brand that launched in the 1980s, is a telling sign.

Jordan needs to reinvent itself.
Dropping price and increasing supply killed the brand's value.
They need to go back to that.
On top of that, the retro shyt is down, make a moritorium on any retros coming out for atleast 5 years., you you do make it extremely limited 100 pair or something like that.
They need to actually make shoes for the Jordan Brand athlete and make it mean something.
They need a new Jordan shoe as well, maybe split the brand into game gear and fashion wear.

Don't have a dog in this fight but , why is this news? Adidas makes a variety of shoes whereas Jordan Brands only kicks worth a damn are retros at this point.

The last sentence saying that Nike is still ahead of Adidas is really all that matters.

Because now there is real competition and Nike must respond.

Before there was essentially a monopoly.

Also what you have is that the other Nike subsidiaries are included in the Nike #'s other than Jordan.

The Chuck Taylor's listed here go towards Nike's numbers despite not being a "Nike" shoe as Nike owns Converse.

Big cultural shift towards European fashion & casual sportswear in recent years so no surprised that the biggest European sportswear company that specialzes in casual wear is benefiting from that. It's not like Adidas isn't still third rate when it comes to Basketball, it's just that Basketball gear ain't as popular as it used to be.
