Whats the better album :whew:

Both are very similar in terms of production, content, time period, the fact they're both duos etc.

Both are probably classics as well. Ima give my take later

Standouts on both:

UGK : One Day, Murder, Diamonds and Wood, 3 in the mornin, Ridin Dirty,
8ball &MJG: Space Age Pimpin, Hand of the Devil, For real, On Top of the World, Friend or Foe

I don't know how you can put these albums up against each other..if I had to choose I'd say "ridin dirty" because that is ugk's opus. with no support from jive, they still managed to hold the south down, the old fashioned way..I don't think on top of the world was ball & g's best album, I'll give that to " on the outside looking' in". a better question might have been which is better, "murder" or "lay it down"? I like many other supporters can recite each word for word. altho ball & g's 3rd album had big name features and polished production compared to their previous efforts [favorite songs: pimp in my own rhyme, kick that shyt, top of the world and space age pimpin'] "on the outside looking in" had the energy flowing thru out the whole disc..and only one feature, mc breed [r.i.p.] on sesshead funk junky. every track was nice...much like "riding dirty" was to me.altho starting the album off with "one day" kind of threw me, the molotov cocktail of pimp c and no joe on production was a killer..a true concept album. if I had to pick favorites they would be murder, diamonds & wood, good stuff, 3 in the morning

in my opinion, these are 2 southern rap legends and 2 MUST HAVE albums in your collection.

I think Coming out hard was Ball and G's best album. Riding Dirty >> On Top of the world. Both strong albums tho.

I like coming out hard as a tie with on top of the world for 2nd..I believe ball & g produced it themselves, in a bedroom or bathroom..that rawness of that cd is the shyt..not to mention both artists hadn't changed their deliveries, they were still spitting that mtown flow. later mjg's voice going too deep and in my opinion losing a step to 8ball, when on coming out hard he was the spitter..when 8ball came with starships and rockets something changed him and his style was less fast and pimp oriented and more introspective..

There second album was pretty good. But yeah they fell off rather quickly after that. I think Rap A Lot put them in purgatory and they were basically forgotten about. As for that album I wanna say Dirty made their own beats but I'm not certain.

You mean ":ohlawd:"?

It doesn't represent too much other than that it's a great fukking song

haha okay..I hate that ugk didn't get the full recognition they truly deserved. I used to blame it on jive, but after reading the book, the group in general and pimp c in particular made shyt way worse..

its well known that pimp c didn't want to do big pimpin..then did it and jive doubled back wanting to do big pimpin 2 and they balked, which they should've..but imagine taking hype williams and directing a video in htown for choppin blades..capturing the cars the boppers the imagery from hype williams lens..they wouldn't have missed a beat.also shooting a video for let me see it to go with that would've been a nice one 2 punch..had they been able to work with the label..obviously their a&r [jeff sledge?] didn't know the true relevance of the group at that time..also was chopping blades completed early enough? shooting those videos could have extended the life of the group I believe...maybe i will post something about ugk on here because I have some strong opinions about one of my all time favorite groups, such as: pimp c wasn't as good after getting out of the pen as he was 96-00/01,international players ball wasn't even one of their top 10 hits to me, pimp c's production was so vicious and with his rap style and the singing was even more savage. bun b sounded better over pimps production than anything else..those may be unpopular opinions but Im sticking to them.
