That shyt is the reason you have all these suburban soft ass rappers today. That is the reason that you have the Drakes, Tyga, Kid Cudi etc. Had 50 won that sales battle on Sept.11 2007 the streets would be more represented in hiphop today. The record labels threw their money behind the suburban shyt once Kanye sold more records than Curtis. That shyt drastically changed the climate in hiphop. I think people bought the graduation album just to see 50 retire like he said he would if he lost the bet.

Maybe it's also because Kanye had the better album also? Stronger is a classic, and I liked more than half of the songs on Graduation.

The only song from Curtis that is still worth a damn is Ayo Technology.

Didn't say Kanye didn't have the better album, I'm just saying them going head to head is what the record labels used as an interest gauge and when Kanye won they figured that hiphop was moving in a new direction which is away from the street shyt and more into the suburban/diva shyt.

Honestly if that was the case wack rappers like Chief Keef would not be getting major record deals based of YouTube views

All the new hipster/suburban acts like Mac Miller who are finding success are atleast putting in work through mixtapes and videos. They just happen to appeal to a very large middle class white audience and its working for them :manny:

Hip hop music is getting softer because the audience is changing. It's a reflection of society. In many ways society is getting softer hence the music is getting softer. Us old heads lived through a much "harder" generation and the music back then is a reflection of that

That's why I don't listen to any of these new cats. I'm perfectly fine listening to albums and songs from the 80's to the mid 2000's. If that's the way it's got to be to be then so be it. There's enough material to keep me content.

Tell a nikka in the streets of Oakland that society is getting softer. I can't speak for other regions and many ppl agree with u that crime around the country is going down. I just don't see it, the murder rate in my city is steady rising and when I look at the First 48 I see ppl are getting even more ruthless.

I'm an LA dude and anyone familiar with the Gang scene will tell you niqqas aren't banging like they were In the 80's and 90's. Not to generalize and say no one is banging. I would say maybe a quarter of the amount of Gang Members are actively "banging" in comparison to the 80's and 90's. Back then everybody and they momma was on some banging shyt. You could even find Hard Sets in the suburbs who were crazy as fuk because they felt like they had something to prove back then. It's just not like that any longer

Yawn.

I don't understand why you need "hard" music.

If you want it, theres no one stopping you from obtaining it.
